While searching YouTube for alphabet songs to show my kids, I stumbled across this one for Korean.

I’m trying to speed up my efforts in learning Korean, because I’m getting impatient with being stuck in the intermediate level.
Right now (if anyone’s interested) I find that reading helps me most to acquire more words and grammar. But it was a little tricky to find an adequate book.

오늘 읽기 수업은 우리 새댁 요코짱의 한국살이의 발췌문을 읽었어요. 그 발췌문 서강 한국어 3B page 83. 그책은 친구한테 빌렸는데 지금은 첵중에서 몇쪽이 알줄 몰랐어요.
여러분 아직 안읽었으면 사러 문고 가세요. 이책은 쉽고 재미 있고 읽어 볼만해요.

I’m still reading Korean when I can. I had picked up 어린이 왕자 but found it to be too difficult and lost my motivation to continue.
However recently I heard from yet another friend that 새댁 요코짱의 한국살이 is a good book to read for Korean learners so I picked it up on Friday. It’s written by a Japanese woman married to a Korean and each two page spread has a comic on one side and accompanying explanations anecdotes on the other.
I’ve read the first three comics/stories and found them to be much closer to my actual ability. Still a little too difficult but I can understand enough to appreciate point of the anecdote. Additionally it seems that many of the stories will be the authors reflections on Korean life as an expatriate. Clearly, I can relate to much of this and my own experiences should add context enabling me to understand more.
Below is the first two pages of the book. Click to enlarge.

After considering my recent lack of motivation and a desire to do something in Korean I have decided to plunge right into reading. No more childrens books. I’m just going to read adult fiction.
I was at Kyobo Bookstore today and was looking around the fiction section and was debating between two books, both written by Japanese authors. The first was Fly Daddy Fly but I chose 기묘한 이야기 because it was short stories and I could understand more when I read the first two pages then from Fly Daddy Fly.
