It’s name is 국어 실력이 밥 먹여준다. My friend introduced me to the book and loaned it to me. It’s an offbeat book because it describes similar Korean words to Korean people as if Koreans were foreigners. I mean, most Koreans don’t need to study the difference between 속 and 안 / 붉다 – 빨갛다 / 끝내다 – 마치다 but this book explains their differences anyway. The book is in Korean. It would be great for a foreigner translating into Korean who has to be aware of slight differences between popular and common words. But don’t let that fool you. Registratrion for the 16th 한국어능력시험 is July 1st ~ 15th (wed to wed). You can register through http://www.topik.or.kr/. Many 학원 in Korea will have a 3 month brush-up for the test, I’m seriouly considering taking one of those coming up here for the big push … Korean Writing Head’s up people!

컴퓨터 앞에서 앉아 word file이나 번역프로그램을 쓰고 잘못된 영어를 수정하고 일이 좀 내면적인 사람에게 맞는다. 주회사는 어려움에 겪게 되었고 일수가 감소됐더니 고민을 많이 한 다음에 한국말을 어느정도 할 수 있다고 생각을 하며 힘을 내고(?) jobkorea에서 회원가입해 봤어요. jobkorea에서 찾은 번역회사한테나 인터넷상에서 찾은 번역회사에게 자기소개와 이력서를 보내고 freelance으로 일을 찾았어요, 제가. 한국번역회사는 번역 사건을 다 감수하는 원어민한테 안 맡겨도 때때로 크라이엔트한테 그렇게 하라는 요청을 받고 일이 생겨요. 저의 경우에는 한국말을 할 수 없었더라면 감수 프로젝트를 얻기가 이렇게 쉬운 일이 아녔을텐데. 한국말과 영어를 하는 외국인의 특징이 재번역을 통해 잘못 된 번역을 품질이 좋은 논문으로 변경해 드릴 수 있다는 데에 있어요. 저는 이제 별로 한국말 공부 안 하고 일하면서 한글원문과 비교하면서 단어나 표현을 배워요. 원어민강사의 쉬운 살림살리 대신에 ‘일’이라고 하기보다 제가 좋아하는 것을 하게 되었다고 자기자신한테 만족을 시켜요(?).

Just the background itself and the present status is worth a read. I would feel like I was tooting my own horn, except for the fact that it’s been probably 5,000 hours (untold by no stretch of the imagination) working on it, sadly, and there’s still so much work to do. If anybody ever wanted to be a lexicographer, as dictionary makers are called …. Things to do: 1) use it to expand a korean_english wiki projects 2) clean it up and make a script to merge the 6000 list with the korean_english table 3) add a table for conjugations linked by wordid ….
